Asbury University.
Lee University. Anderson University. Ohio Christian University. Cedarville University. All of these Universities are ones that have been known recently as having revival hit their campuses. Asbury, being the first and most prominent. Without question, there is a hunger for revival to say the least. A hunger and knowing that there is more that what is being experienced and seen in the American Church. Knowing that there is a gap, and knowing what to do about it, are two completely different things. I can know that my teenage kids are struggling with their Algebra homework, but that does not mean that I remember enough about it to help them! Empathy is great. Sympathy is important. Knowledge matters. But isn't there more? Believe it or not, a book written in 1959 can offer help! Leonard Ravenhill, an incredible man of God, wrote a book entitled, Why Revival Tarries. He feels it important, that instead of addressing what people must do to see and experience revival, to share what is keeping it from coming. I find this idea and though very interesting and important. This shows clearly a God who wants to pour out His Spirit as He says in Joel 2. Not a God unwilling. In a way, God is looking for and desperate to be among His people. If this is the case, why are we not seeing it? Why isn't revival here? Why do we see spurts here and there for a few weeks or months and then gone? I believe the answer is found in this book. "Oh that believers would become eternity conscious! If we could live every moment of every day under the eye of God, if we did every act in the light of the judgment seat, if we prayed every prayer in the light of the judgment seat, if we tithed all our possessions in the light of the judgment seat, if we preachers prepared every sermon with one eye on damned humanity and the other on the judgement seat - then we would have a Holy Ghost revival that would shake this earth and that, in no time at all, would liberate millions of precious souls." He Goes on to give several reasons for why revival is not here: - because evangelism is so highly commercialized - because of the cheapening of the Gospel - because of carelessness - because of fear - because we lack urgency in prayer - because we steal the glory that belongs to God This book is not for the weary or the weak-souled. If you are looking for a best friend to pick you up and tell you good job, please look somewhere else! But... ...if you are like me, desperate to see a move of God. Desperate to see souls saved. Desperate to live different and see different. Desperate to be set apart. Desperate to be seen and loved by Christ. Desperate to be like those who have "turned the world upside-down..." ...then this book is for you!
